A runway is marked with the number 27. This corresponds approximately to which magnetic heading when landing on that runway?

A27 degrees
B270 degrees
C90 degrees

Why →Runway numbers are the runway's magnetic alignment rounded to the nearest 10 degrees with the final zero dropped. Runway 27 is aligned to about 270 degrees magnetic. The opposite end of the same pavement is Runway 9, aligned to about 090 degrees. Knowing runway numbering helps a remote pilot predict the direction manned traffic will approach and depart.

The trap →The number is a heading in tens of degrees, not the literal value. 27 is not 27 degrees, and 90 degrees is the reciprocal runway (Runway 9), the opposite direction on the same strip.

Field note →To find the other end of any runway, add or subtract 18, which is 180 degrees. Runway 27 and Runway 9 are the two ends of one strip.
