A Remote Pilot Certificate does not expire. However, to exercise the privileges of the certificate, a pilot must maintain currency by completing recurrent knowledge training or testing every 24 calendar months per 14 CFR § 107.65.
The trap →
The certificate itself never expires, but your currency does. It's a common mistake to conflate the certificate (permanent) with currency (24-month cycle). An expired currency means you can't fly commercially, not that you lose the certificate.
