⚖ Regulations · § 107.9; § 107.21Q-040 · 40 of 251

A remote pilot deviates from the 400-foot AGL limit to avoid a collision with a manned aircraft, climbing to approximately 550 feet AGL. No one is injured, no property is damaged, and the drone lands safely. What reporting obligation applies?

Why →
Section § 107.21 allows deviation from Part 107 rules to meet an emergency. After the fact, the remote PIC must submit a written report only if the FAA requests one. Section § 107.9 requires an accident report when there is serious injury, loss of consciousness, or property damage over $500 (not counting the drone). Neither condition applies here, so § 107.9 does not trigger. The two provisions are often confused.
The trap →
Choice B applies § 107.9 without checking the injury/damage thresholds. Choice C over-reports because the question sounds serious, but serious-sounding is not the trigger.
