⚖ Regulations · § 89.305; FAA Remote ID Final Rule preamble (86 FR 4390)Q-042 · 42 of 251

Standard Remote ID allows a remote pilot to broadcast either the drone's serial number or a session ID as the unique identifier. What is the primary purpose of the session ID option?

Why →
A session ID is a randomly generated identifier issued per flight session that can be broadcast in place of the drone's serial number. It is designed for operators who want to reduce public traceability of their aircraft across multiple flights, while still allowing law enforcement with proper authority to obtain the matching operator record from the FAA. Session IDs do not change Remote ID obligations; they change which identifier is broadcast.
The trap →
Choice B confuses session ID with shared-registration concepts that do not exist in Part 89. Choice C treats session ID as a waiver mechanism, which it is not; it is a compliant Standard Remote ID option.
