AIRMET Zulu covers moderate icing not associated with thunderstorms and provides freezing level information. While most sUAS operations are at low altitudes where icing is uncommon, in cold weather at elevation, propeller icing can degrade performance rapidly.
The trap →
Severe icing is covered by SIGMET, not AIRMET. AIRMETs cover moderate-level hazards primarily for light aircraft. Zulu is moderate icing only. Z for Zero degrees (freezing).
