⚖ Operations · § 107.29, Night Operations (as amended)Q-189 · 189 of 251

Under Part 107, what are the visibility and cloud clearance requirements for sUAS operations at night?

Why →
The FAA's 2021 NPRM and rule update (under the 2021 reauthorization) removed the blanket waiver requirement for night operations. Under the current rule, night operations are permitted with the same weather minimums as day (3 SM visibility, 500/2,000 cloud clearance) PLUS an anti-collision light on the aircraft visible for at least 3 statute miles. No IFR clearance or waiver is required for routine night operations meeting these requirements.
The trap →
Night operations under Part 107 no longer require a waiver as of 2021 (FAA rule change). They do require the anti-collision lighting. IFR capability and clearance apply to manned aircraft in IMC. Completely inapplicable to Part 107. The weather minimums are identical to daytime.
