Under what condition should the operator of a small UA establish a scheduled maintenance protocol?

AWhen the manufacturer does not provide a maintenance schedule.
BUAS does not need a required maintenance schedule.
CWhen the FAA requires you to, following an accident.

Why →Under 14 CFR § 107.15 and guidance in AC 107-2A, the remote PIC must ensure the aircraft is in a safe operating condition. When a manufacturer provides a maintenance schedule, follow it. When they do not (common with consumer drones), the operator must develop their own protocol.

The trap →"UAS does not need maintenance" is dangerously wrong. Every aircraft needs maintenance. Waiting for an FAA accident mandate is reactive, not proactive.

Field note →A practical maintenance log should track flight hours, crash events, propeller inspections, battery cycle counts, and firmware updates.
