⚖ Regulations · § 107.110, FAA UAG Sample Question 44REG-021 · 20 of 261

To conduct Category 1 operations under Part 107, a remote pilot in command must use a small unmanned aircraft that weighs

A0.55 pounds or less.
B0.65 pounds or less.
C0.75 pounds or less.

Why →Under 14 CFR § 107.110, Category 1 operations (flights over people) require an aircraft weighing 0.55 lbs (250g) or less at takeoff, including everything on board.

The trap →There is no 0.65 or 0.75 pound category anywhere in the rule. 0.55 lbs = 250 grams is the number to know.

Field note →Category 1 is why DJI Mini-series drones (249g) are so popular commercially. Weight alone is not enough, though: Category 1 also requires no exposed rotating parts that could lacerate skin (usually meaning prop guards), and sustained flight over open-air assemblies requires Remote ID.
