At a non-towered airport with no visual markings or published procedures indicating otherwise, what is the standard traffic pattern direction?

ARight-hand turns
BEither direction, at the pilot's discretion
CLeft-hand turns

Why →The standard traffic pattern at a non-towered airport uses left-hand turns unless visual indicators or published procedures specify otherwise. This convention keeps the runway on the pilot's left through the pattern for a consistent traffic flow. A remote pilot operating nearby should anticipate manned traffic turning left onto final.

The trap →"Either direction at the pilot's discretion" ignores that a default exists. Right-hand patterns occur only where terrain or noise abatement requires them, and they are then marked on the ground and charted, not left to discretion.

Field note →Right traffic is shown on sectional charts and in the Chart Supplement with the notation "RP" for the affected runway. Absent that note, assume left traffic.
