What is the purpose of a preflight inspection?

Why →
Under 14 CFR § 107.49, the remote PIC must perform a preflight inspection to ensure the UAS is in a condition for safe operation. The inspection covers airframe integrity, propeller condition, battery state of health, control link function, and any condition that might affect safe flight.
The trap →
Preflight inspections are not paperwork exercises. They are genuine safety checks. GPS calibration and flight controller initialization are separate procedures. The regulatory purpose is specifically airworthiness verification.
