How old must you be to obtain a Remote Pilot Certificate under Part 107?

A17 years old
B16 years old✓ Correct answer
C18 years old

Why →Under 14 CFR § 107.61(a), an applicant must be at least 16 years of age to be eligible for a Remote Pilot Certificate with a small UAS rating.

The trap →Many people confuse this with the general aviation private pilot minimum age of 17, or the "adult" threshold of 18. Part 107 sets 16 as the minimum, younger than most aviation certificates.

Field note →You can sit the knowledge test before your 16th birthday, but the FAA won't issue the certificate until you reach 16.
