A Part 107 remote pilot certificate is valid for:
A2 years from the date of issuance
BUntil the pilot fails a recurrent test
CIndefinitely, as long as the pilot remains current✓
Why →A Remote Pilot Certificate does not expire. However, to exercise the privileges of the certificate, a pilot must maintain currency by completing recurrent knowledge training or testing every 24 calendar months per 14 CFR § 107.65.
The trap →The certificate is permanent; currency runs on the 24-month cycle. Lapsed currency stops you from flying commercially. It does not take the certificate away.
Field note →If you let your currency lapse, you can restore it by completing the recurrent online training at FAASafety.gov, no re-testing at a testing center needed.
